Muxtape
There's this website, http://www.muxtape.com/ . It's currently under construction I believe, but anyways I thought I'd do a sort of visual muxtape. Also, I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to embed these videos from YouTube. If anyone has any advice I'll take it. But the link always provided a clear box with a red X in the corner. Advise away.
Song 1: Singin in the Rain - Gene Kelly.
I'm so in love with Gene Kelly. So attractive, debonair. Athletic and talented in every capacity. And this song gives me chills, watching him dancing. Oh man, I get goosebumps every time. This is a super common fact, but he had a 103 degree fever when filming this famous dance and it came out so well. Another super common fact, milk was added into the water so it would show on film better. Fever + milk water = amazing.

Song 2: Baby - Os Mutantes
Os Mutantes, the Brazilian Beatles. I love this song, the language is so weird. Like they either tried really hard to rhyme in English and it came out like this, or they were just using eccentric images for the point of being romantic. Because weird is romantic. Either way, it's tres adorable. "You know, you must try the new ice cream flavor/do me a favor/look at me closer/Join us and go far/And hear the new sound of my bossa nova" Really great band I recommend every song they've ever written.

Song 3: Coffee and TV - Blur
I love Milky. And someday I'm going to get married and me and my husband are going to go as Milky and Strawberry milk for Halloween. And my husband will understand how important it is to me. What a catchy song. My favorite music video ever.

Song 4: Gila - Beach House
I saw this band in concert earlier this year. I don't really like concerts -- I can't deal with the crowds, it makes me claustrophobic and have anxiety attacks. And I almost didn't go. But it was totally worth the frequent trips to hide in a bathroom stall. I was blown away, and the crowd was mellow. And I drank alot of Buttery Nipples and all was well. This is perfect gray weather music, stormy weather. Muggy night back porch music. Perfect.

Song 5: Part Time Lover - The Lost Fingers
I love a good jazz cover of a classic pop song. Along with the Puppini Sisters, I'm a little obsessed with the Lost Fingers. This is a cover of Part Time Lover by Stevie Wonder. And it's fantastic!! This is my current myspace song. I love this band, they're french and who doesn't love the french!? Take a chance to listen to some of their other covers such as Straight Up by Paula Abdul, You Shook Me All Night by AC/DC, You Give Love a Bad Name by Bon Jovi, Pump up the Jam by Techtronic and more!

Song 6: Exit Music (For a Film) - Brad Mehldau Trio
Again, another good jazz cover of a classic, Radioheads Exit Music becomes a transfixing piano solo. This song gives me chills, well his version of it more so. It you've seen Unfaithful starring Diane Lane and Richard Gere, this was used as the theme and score. I love Brad Mehldau. I want to date him. He went to the New School, which was a huge selling point for me in applying as he sometimes gives clinics. I worked for the Storm Chaser guy as mentioned previously over the past few years, and while I did alot of phone sales I met a guy named DJ from Cali who had worked as a tour manager for Alanis and also for the Allman Brothers. And he went to HS with Brad and was pals with him. And that's how I know Brad Mehldau.

Song 7: Day is Done - Nick Drake
Everyone knows Nick Drake, mainly for that old Cabrio commercial that played "Pink Moon". I love Nick Drake, he changed my opinion of musicians. He died tragically young of an accidental medical overdose. His doctors gave him too much of some pill and it killed him. And this song is haunting, especially the strings. I listen to this song while going to sleep alot. It makes me cry, it's breathtaking.

Song 8: America - Simon and Garfunkel
This song is in Almost Famous, when Zoey Deschanel is leaving home to go be a flight attendant with curlers in her hair. She plays this album to explain why she's leaving. And she grabs William by the shoulders and looks him square in the face and says, "Someday, you'll be cool." This song changed my life. It gave me motivation. Last summer, this was the only song I listened to for days and days. On repeat. I just listened and thought and drove and smoked and slept and thought about America. This song means the world to me.

Song 8: Here, There and Everywhere - The Beatles
I think this might be my favorite Beatles song. It's beautiful and resolves in the right way. I could have added the Beatles version to this, but opted for a classical guitar cover by some weird guy. I think an instrumental version of this song is best. Because as the words to say so much, the music says so much more. Create your own images.

Song 9: Pavane - Regina Carter
This song is in the episode of Sex and the City titled "One" and everytime I see that episode I cry for whatever personal reasons I cry about SATC for. I realized I wasn't just crying for the episode I was crying because this song hits me right. I love it. It hits me right in the gut.

Song 10: Playground Love - Air
This song means alot to me.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAgX1jO3No0
Song 11: Please Call me Baby - Tom Waits
This song is beautiful. His voice sounds so good in this song, gruff yet soothing. This song represents a time in my life when I was a teenager busting out of my skin, swing dancing 3 nights a week, wearing back seam thigh highs and garters to school every day, and not appreciating myself as much as I wish I had. This album is my favorite of his, it's a very different Tom Waits than people think of.

Song 12: You go to my Head - Louis Armstrong
I love his accent in this song, the way he says Burgundy Brew. This is what love is. "Like a summer with a thousand Julys" This is the epitome of jazz romance to me.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_GzCOu1clE
Song 13: Theme from "To Kill a Mockingbird"
This is my favorite movie score. This and ET. Don't you just get chills when the flute comes in? I just listened to it and got chills I love when the orchestra comes in, and the phrase where it repeats and then turns minor. Glory.

Listen, I have a photoblog to do. I'm waiting for all the pictures. It will be soon. So enjoy my mello muxtape if you will.

aww man. i was gonna send you a link to the muxtape i had made but the site is down. but my muxtape is kinda lame and only has i think 4 songs on it. one of them is a cover of down rodeo by RATM- covered by my uber-talented cousin mike though. i like to think i was going for quality over quantity.
